What
is obedience?
Obedience is simply compliance to a directive
or order.
Obedience
divided into two
Positive Obedience- When you obey God or man
to do the right thing.
Negative Obedience – When one obey Satan or
man to do a wrong thing.
But I will be dwelling on obeying God -
Positive Obedience.
What
is obedience to God?
Obedience to God is always a positive one
because God is righteous.
Unifying the definition of obedience with God;
is complying with God’s directives, order or will.
1. Because it’s the basis of our Faith in Christ
Matt.
11:28-30 “28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest. 29 Take my
yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart:
and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For
my yoke is easy, and my burden
is light”. When we are born again is because we believe, and we have obeyed
this clarion call. Christianity is all about obedience.
2. Because it takes obedience to walk with Christ without blemish.
In Gen.
Chapter 12 & 22 we see how Abraham obeyed God totally.
Abraham through obedience walked with God without blemish.
Rom. 6:17 "But God be thanked, that
ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of
doctrine which was delivered you.
"We can only
walk with God when we are ready to always obey Him totally"
3.
Because God demands total obedience. Gen 17:1. “1 And when Abram was ninety years
old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk
before me, and be thou perfect.”
Jer.
11:4 “4 Which
I commanded your fathers in the day that
I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying,
Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so
shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:”
Jer.
7:23 “23 But
this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and
ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded
you, that it may be well unto you.”
4.
Obedience leads to righteousness. Rom. 6:16. “16 Know ye not, that to whom ye
yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey;
whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”
When we
continually obey God, then we are bound to be righteous.
Rom.
4:3. “3 For
what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto
him for righteousness.” Obedience is Faith. We can’t obey
God without believing first. If Obedience is to believe (Faith) then Abraham
was righteous because of obedience.
5.
Obedience shows we are for Christ.
Rom. 6:16-18
“16 Know
ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are
to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto
righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that
ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of
doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being
then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.”
When we obey God totally it confirms our identity as a child of God.
